This August, Melbourne audiences will experience the grandeur of one of India’s oldest and most revered classical dance traditions as LEGACY: Grand Odissi Festival takes to the
stage at Darebin Arts Centre.
Presented by the Chandrabhanu Bharatalaya Academy, LEGACY is a spectacular celebration of Odissi dance and music, featuring four performances across 1, 2 and 8
August. 20 Melbourne based dancers will be joined by a distinguished live orchestra flown in from Odisha, India, creating an authentic artistic experience rarely seen in Australia.
 

LEGACY honours Dr Chandrabhanu’s lifelong contribution to Indian classical dance while also celebrating the 60th birthday of acclaimed Odissi vocalist and composer Krushna Chandra
Ray, whose music has inspired generations of dancers around the world.
 

Audiences will experience intricate Pallavis, expressive Geeta Govinda abhinaya, the powerful Navadurga and Dashamahavidya, together with the premiere of a new choreography, Ravana Stotram.
 

Performed to live music, the production features the distinctive sounds of the pakhawaj, flute, sitar and violin, accompanied by the evocative vocals of Krushna Chandra Ray.

More than a dance production, LEGACY is a celebration of artistic excellence, cultural heritage and community. It is the culmination of months of rehearsal by 20 dedicated
dancers and the coming together of artists from Australia and India to present an unforgettable cultural experience.
